As part of our February focus on sugar we worked out the sugar content of a range of drinks……. some of the results were quite shocking!!
Obviously as dentists we would heartily recommend that only water ? is consumed between meals and intake of sugar is kept at a minimum.
Here is a wee gallery going from angels…… to the not so innocent!!!!!! The sugar cubes by each drink shows how much is in the bottle by it’s side.
The recommended daily intake for sugar for an adult is 30g a day (16g for children)…… some of the drinks tested contained more than this in 1serving!
What we find most shocking though is the sugar contained in drinks that are contained in drinks marketed as “healthy” ??……. the smoothies seem to feel that as a small bottle is marked as “2-3 servings” then it’s fine……… but is it???? does anyone really divide this small bottle into 3??????
So In Conclusion
Most of us drink sugary drinks sometimes but please be mindful of what you consume…….. Is a small starbucks latte a good idea???? and does anyone really need a can of monster????
